Food For Thought

  1. According to a couple of sources, at least 58% of Americans invest in the stock market to grow wealth or provide for their retirement. The people who invest in the US stock market really have two goals - market share and growth. Growth raises stock prices which inflates the (paper) wealth of the holder. If some tool analyst somewhere decides that a company's earnings should have been 10 dollars higher than the 2 billion they made, guess what - the fish school and stock prices fall. US CEOs aren't rewarded for innovation or quality unless it translates into earnings. So they cut corners, shrink labor forces, make shady deals with hungry state governments looking for new industry, buy up innovators and hide their products on a shelf. And management hopes to retire before the music stops. Same goes for the investors.
