My wife and I were comparing burn scars from our childhood Mattel Thingmakers. Apparently, product liability wasn't a thing in the '60's - an uncovered electrical hotplate with metal tools with napalm-like molten plastic. If you stuck with the thing you obtained an honorary Shaolin mastery. I did, in fact, use one of my Thingmakers as a hotplate in college.
Mattel had at least 3 'toys' that would cause cardiac arrest in today's parents. In addition to the Thingmaker, they had a vacuform machine, and and honest to gosh lathe. Don't even get me started on our chemistry sets...
